SABAH DAP Vice Chairman, Edward Ewol Mujie said he noted with great interest that the Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Infrastructure Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan has visited Kampung Garau where the construction of 119 concrete houses for the villagers who are affected by the construction of the Milau Dam, to be resettled.
However, Edward said what Pairin has said during his visit was actually exposing the weakness of the BN Government for not taking stern action against the defaulting contractors.
This is not the only projects that has been delayed and did not follow specifications, and yet the defaulting contractors are either being allowed to go free or they are even given additional allocation to complete the projects, he said.
Edward said Pairin who is also the Minister of Infrastructure should take necessary action to terminate or suspense the licenses, of these defaulting contractors as the Public Works Department is the agency to register these contractors; which under the Ministry because Edward said if no stern action being taken against them then the other contractors who are being awarded Government contracts will follow suit, by the end of the day, any projects will face the same fate like the Kampung Garau’s project.
Anyway, Edward said he hopes Pairin will visit all the districts in Sabah to find out whether all the projects that the BN Government wanted to implement has been done according to specification and the stipulated time so that immediate action can be taken against the defaulting contractors if the contractors has not carried out the jobs accordingly.
He also hope that while visiting the districts, Pairin will travel at night where the road has streetlight but unfortunately still remain very dark during the night.
