THE Sabah Immigration Department scored a major success by busting a 'high profile' syndicate involved in endorsing visit pass permits between Indonesia and Malaysia, using false immigration rubber stamps.
Sabah Immigration director Mohammad Mentek said it was the biggest case exposed by the department in five years as the syndicate was believed to have been involved in falsifying visit passes for about 500 passports of Indonesians in more than three years.
"The three suspects, all Indonesians, were detained during 'Ops Serkap' on Friday in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang," he told reporters here Tuesday.
The activities of the syndicate was exposed after an Indonesian woman was detained at the Immigration point at the Tawau port on Oct 16, on suspicion of using a false entry permit endorsement for a (social/business) visit.
"Investigations revealed that the visit pass was endorsed by the Immigration chief at the Tawau port. The woman was found working with three companies here using the social visit pass.
"Her passport indicates that she had left the country and returned but in actual fact, she did not leave the country or exit the immigration point. The endorsements in her passport were done by the syndicate," he said.
He added that during investigations, the suspects revealed that their clients were all working in the construction, service and as house maids.
The syndicate uses a Modus operandi using various links to reach the syndicate before carrying out the endorsements.
