THAM, CHINESE ADVISOR TO THE CM?

At the kudat Chinese community function last Wednesday graced by the Chief Minister, one figure stands out among the crowd.

Ex-deputy Chief Minister Datuk Tham Nyip Shen was literally the ‘Director of Operations’. He came and left in the same car as the Chief Minister. On stage, he was telling VIPs where to stand for the photo op.

Guests at my table commented in Chinese that Datuk Tham ‘on your left and right’ (of the CM). He entirely upstaged the host Datuk Wong Phin Chung, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter pang and Assistant Minister in charge, Datuk Edward Khoo.

Guest at my table were asking what post Datuk Tham hold in the Government? Has he been appointed as Chinese advisor to the CM? What is the role of the Chinese DCM, Datuk Yee Moh Chai, Datuk Edward Khoo and other minister?

A community leader who has know Datuk Tham for 20 years said, he remembered how Datuk Tham had told him that UMNO stands for ‘Under Musa No Opportunities’. Unless, what Datuk Tham meant was no opportunities for him.
