THE MAGISTRATE'S Court in Butterworth has set March 5 to hear a case of a Malaysian man charged with chaining the legs of his two children and locking them up in the toilet of their house.
Magistrate Mohd Zamir Suhaimee set the date pending a medical report of the children.
On the first count, Tan Hooi Keong, 43, is charged with causing physical and emotional harm on his six-year-old daughter, Tan Ming Zhi, by chaining her legs and confining her in the toilet of their home.
He is also charged with committing the same offence on his two-year-old son, Tan Ming Han.
The children were allegedly confined in the toilet of their home, with their legs chained, between 3pm and 8pm on Dec 28, 2011 at house No 21, Jalan Mawar, Taman Dahlia, Butterworth,
Tan, who is charged under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, pleaded not guilty to the charge on Jan 4.
The offence carries an imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or fine of up to RM20,000 or both, upon conviction. (Bernama)
