HEALTHCARE IS BASIC SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

JUNZ Wong, DAP Sabah State Assistant Secretary said, The 1Care plan involves restructuring the healthcare system by creating a fund pooled from a new social health insurance scheme.

However 1Care plan requires 10 percent of a person's income for the pool fund, it only gives very limited coverage in return.

Even with 1Care, a person who requires treatment outside the list of benefits covered by the scheme will have to foot the bill.

"So where is the logic? Why should Malaysians participate in this 1Care plan when we can get comprehensive coverage from private insurance schemes?" Junz asked

DAP Sabah oppose it because 1Care plan is pale when compared with private insurance schemes, which usually only requires 10 percent of one's income to get extensive coverage, Junz explained.

The question is not everyone can afford private insurance scheme simply because many are too poor to spare out 10 percent of their income for medical needs.

"Is BN government forcing every Malaysian to contribute 10 percent of their income regardless of which tax brackets for this 1Care plan!?"

Junz Wong who is also DAPSY KK Assistant Youth Chief emphasized Healthcare is basic social responsibility. Government should be taking care of the people through taxation revenue.

According to the global survey by International Research Institutes, most Malaysians surveyed in 2011 has shown they want government to foot the bill for healthcare.

Government funding of healthcare needs can be accomplished through taxation, Junz concluded.
