Dear Editor,
I TOTALLY agree with the
remarks of Lim Kit Siang in the Malaysiakini on 11 May 2013. His message clearly propagated unity. Gone
are the days of May 13. Words that are spoken to cause disunity and the fear of
that date should be regarded as sedition, as that in itself, is not in line
with the Rukunegara or the creed of the nation.
We must from today affix our
minds and hearts on the vision of our founding fathers. Malaysia should be for
Malaysians and not just any race. We must be a country which will give and
grant justice and fairness to all regardless of skin color or creed.
We must remember that
Malaysia is only 50 years old and its birthday is the 16 September 1963. We the
people would love to see this nation continue its prosperity for centuries to
come, not be broken due to the myopic views of politicians who would do
anything to win, regardless of what division that the words that spew from
their mouth would cause.
Truly, I must echo the words
of the PM, who just said that he wants to be a prime minister for all
Malaysians. If that is true of his aspirations, then UMNO should no longer be
known as United Malay National Organization but renamed as United Malaysian
National Organization. This would definitely picture the really true aspirations
of a truly Malaysian Prime Minister.
Why divide and rule when you
can unite and rule. As I can observe from the recently concluded 13th General
Election, the popular votes were for unity not division. The younger generation
no longer wants to be identified as Chinese or Malay or Indian or Iban or
Kadazan, but they want to be known as Malaysians when people ask them a
question about race.
Although it is good to know
our ethnic backgrounds and cultures to stay in line with our heritage, let that
not be the divide that rules us. The spirit of being a Malaysian should always
inspire and spur us to greater heights and achievements.
I must also include Mohd
Asri’s remarks on 11 May 2013 which basically says it is unIslamic to be
racist. Islam is taught and practiced in every nation under the sky. If Islam
is racist, then we would not be seeing a cacophony of colors during the annual
Haj pilgrimage in Makkah every year.
Islam is not only for the
Malays but for everyone to understand and nurture. We should by all means
respect the religions that are practiced by others as well. Islam is a religion
of peace and should be known as such. We can see that the extreme were also
rejected by the people.
We can never succeed if we
keep our divide. There will remain an eternal unbridgeable boundary which will
eventually break the bonds of unity in this beloved country we call home as we
will always be enemies of our neighbors and we will have no friends outside of
our community that stays within the racial divide.
We cannot unite as one party
only during a general election and quickly blame others when the accounting of
losses comes. That does not reflect the Malaysian spirit. We are accountable
for what we do.
If I fail, I must never
blame my neighbor or friends, for it is my failure. If I succeed, I must credit
others for my success because as we are humans, we can never succeed without
others for we are flawed and as such, we need others to complement our flaws
and help us attain the success we dream of.
Now comes the time for
reconciliation and the mending of injuries caused by unwarranted, unwanted and
unwonted remarks which had led to anger and hurt in the society. Now comes the
time for friendship and camaraderie to be upheld.
Now that the dust has
settled, we are foremost Malaysians and we must stay united for our beloved
country and the generations to come. We cannot overlook the future of our
children and our nation.
Our time will pass and we
may no longer be there when it happens and I, for one, will never want to see
my son or daughter or my grandchildren for that matter, to fight with another
person because he or she has a different religion or race or creed. It is to
the future that we must look, not the past.
Best Regards,
JOHAN S ABDULLAH

ReplyDeletePolis menahan tiga mahasiswa berusia 20-an di depan kediaman rasmi Perdana Menteri di sini lewat petang tadi selepas didapati sengaja menimbulkan masalah dan mengganggu ketenteraman awam.
Timbalan Ketua Polis Daerah Putrajaya Superintenden Mak Pak Chuai berkata mahasiswa berkenaan, yang mengetuai kira-kira 100 pelajar lain, cuba menghantar memorandum berhubung isu pendidikan kepada Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
I WANT THE BEST FROM BN. I COULD GO TO FACULTY CALMLY. FEAR OF NOTHING

ReplyDeleteNext Wednesday can't come fast enough for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. That's when his new "unity cabinet" meets properly for the first time following its introductory get-together in the wake of the swearing in ceremony. The meeting next week, with real Government business on the agenda, will do wonders for Najib's efforts to heal the nation after a fractious GE13.
ReplyDeleteA small but encouraging symbol of this unity in action arrived via the congratulations messages for two of the new members. Maybank CEO Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, who has been appointed as a minister without portfolio to the Prime Minister's department, was congratulated by PAS and immediately replied in the same positive spirit.
ReplyDeleteMeantime Umno Youth Leader and newly sworn in sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been congratulated via Twitter by both DAP's Tony Pua and PKR's Azmin Ali. These might seem like mere courtesy messages but they should not be underestimated given that Pakatan leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is still wallowing in his "disgust" at the outcome of GE13.
ReplyDeleteIf Anwar had any doubts about how isolated he is in his sulking campaign, he need look not at the new cabinet, which is ready to move on, but at his Pakatan colleagues who are way ahead of him in terms of political maturity.
ReplyDeleteOf the 32 cabinet members, nearly half are new faces, which means Najib has delivered on his commitment to renewal and governmental reform. He has also been praised for the inclusion of technocrats like Abdul Wahid who gives his team the business-friendly edge which is so welcome with the international investment community.
The inclusion of Transparency International Malaysia boss Paul Low is also a loud statement about what lies ahead as the Government redoubles its anti-corruption drive.
ReplyDeleteThere is a real sense of urgency with this new cabinet which is good for the nation. With less than a week to the first agenda items the new and reshuffled ministers need to be hard at work learning about their ministries. Then there is the likelihood of Parliament sitting next month ahead of Ramadan to debate policies approved by cabinet. There isn't much time.
The new Government needs to find its rhythm fast both in terms of cabinet business and healing the wounds of GE13. By naming this line-up Najib has given his administration the best possible start.
ReplyDeletebersama kita kukuhkan negara
DeleteStop making racist statements again.
ReplyDeleteAdakah sampai bila2 pun nak cakap pasal perbalahan?
ReplyDeleteIt is time to really really making a change in our lives.
ReplyDeleteTakkan kita nak undur ke belakang pula?
ReplyDeleteWe have to put ourselves in more far way.
ReplyDeleteWe should waste no more time looking back.
ReplyDeletePandang ke depan baik baik.
ReplyDeleteNo games played.
ReplyDeleteLaksanakan tanggungjawab dengan baik.
ReplyDeleteProve you are worth it.
ReplyDeleteDoes Malaysia ready to be united? First ask whether The Bumis are willing to drop their "special privileges"?
ReplyDeleteSecondly, Ask the Chinese & Indians whether they are willing to close all Chinese & Indian School??
ReplyDeleteAnd third, ask all the race-based & religion-based political party to disband themselves.
ReplyDeleteIf all of the above materialize, then we can talk about what the author want Malaysia be.
ReplyDeleteI HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteGE13 is over, and the people have made known their choice. Now let us unite and build a better Malaysia. I have voted in all the elections in the past. And I believe I have seen what all Malaysians want, regardless of race and religion.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteNo corruption in any form. Let us destroy it before it overwhelms us. No racial, religious or class distinction. We must condemn all who try to divide us. No restriction on government scholarship for higher studies to anyone who merits it.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteEducational and work opportunities for all who qualify. Those who are competent and capable must be recognised for their efforts. The poor should be given assistance to bring them up to a level where they can contribute meaningfully to the country.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteNo injustice. Our judicial system must mete out justice fairly to all. There were allegations of cheating in the recent election. Our laws require that proof must be furnished before sentence is meted.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteWe should also make party hopping illegal. Let us have a law that will prohibit acts of party hopping.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteSome parties should stop harping on why they lost ... that’s over and down with. The people have spoken. Now is the time to move on. Enough of politics. If you are not satisfied, get proof and facts, lodge a report with the Election Commission, police, MACC. Don’t take the matter to the streets or hold protests and demonstrations. People are fed up.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteBe gracious, accept your defeat. Don’t press your luck, you might just lose it. There will be other general elections. The next one is in five years. Prepare your groundwork, do your job and win over the voters.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteWe are a grown-up nation, we are 56 years old, over half a century old. We have to respect the people’s choice. This is Malaysia, a multi-racial country. We should be proud that the 13th polls was conducted professionally and incident free.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteTo the opposition, please stop sowing seeds of mistrust. Enough is enough. We should remember how our forefathers discussed matters of race and politics and work in that direction. We must also support the peace measures in the nation.
We need to uphold peace and unity, the two are among the essential ingredients for a developed and prosperous nation.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteAmong the issues that needs to be looked at:
* The role and functions of local governments. We need clean, tidy and crime free cities, and towns that are safer. Can we have that? We need clean water. We need to have our garbage efficiently removed, the lalang and bushes cleared and drains cleaned. And matters of public health.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteAmong the issues that needs to be looked at:
The elected representatives must practise good governance, then the people would not complain or whine. Municipal councils must not only improve their work ethics but productivity too. It is time to re-look at the local councils. Most are not performing and rate payers are getting more and more annoyed.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteAmong the issues that needs to be looked at:
Some local authorities are a law unto themselves. This state of affairs must come to an end. Local authorities play a very important role in the lives of urban people, but if they are not performing, they have failed in their duties.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteAmong the issues that needs to be looked at:
* During the election campaigns, crime matters were raised. The new government must tackle crime issues. It is not enough to say the crime perception index has gone down, the crime rate must also go down. The figures should tally.
I HOPE the newly elected BN government, and PR state governments in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, are ready to get to work to build a better Malaysia
ReplyDeleteAmong the issues that needs to be looked at:
The crime doers are getting braver and braver. For example, the snatch thieves, they are more daring than before and will not think twice to rough people up just to get at their handbags, purses, wallets and costume jewelry. There was a proposal by police for mandatory whipping for snatch thieves. This is a good move. When will it be implemented?
Sabah and Sarawak are assured of more progress under a Barisan Nasional (BN) government, with numerous projects expected to take off in the next five years if the coalition is returned to power.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the BN election manifesto launched by Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here tonight, one of them is the construction of the 2,300-km Pan-Borneo Highway stretching from Sematan in Sarawak to Serudung in Sabah.
ReplyDeleteThe highway is expected to spearhead new growth areas, better business opportunities and enhanced communications. Themed 'A Promise of Hope', the manifesto was unveiled in the wake of the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat on April 3, paving the way for the country's 13th general election.
ReplyDeleteThere is also the pledge to build 2,500 kilometres of paved roads in Sabah and 2,800 kilometres in Sarawak, while the rural electrification project will benefit 60,000 households in Sabah and 80,000 in Sarawak.
The BN is also committed to extending clean water supply to another 320,000 homes nationwide in the next five years.
In a bid to provide better access to quality healthcare services, the BN, in its manifesto, pledges to set up a heart centre and cancer centre in every major hospital in both states.
The coalition also promises to improve access to quality education for rural and minorities communities, especially those in Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, in the economic sector, the 31-page manifesto said the effectiveness of the bumiputera agenda, including for bumiputeras in Sabah and Sarawak, will be enhanced by providing business opportunities, a stronger eco-system and institutional support.
The BN, meanwhile, pledges to gazette all native customary land in close consultation with state governments should it be returned to power in the upcoming general election.
The coalition is also committed to providing more income-generating opportunities within indigenous communities and increasing the intake of indigenous youth into tertiary and vocational education.
In addition, the BN promises to set up special courts with the same status as the High Court under the present justice system to deal specifically with native customary rights issues.
