DAMAGED SUNGEI PADAS BRIDGE TENOM

ON 15th May 2009 Sabah DAP Chief YB Dr. Hiew King Cheu made a stunning discovery when he and his team inspected the 450-feet long bridge spanning across the Pedas river that links Tenom to Kemabong.

The team made the inspection after receiving many complaints from the general public. The team had on that day observed that some structural parts are obviously corroded and rusty. When pressed for an answer the authority said they are waiting for funding from the federal government.

In view of the public concern on their safety Sabah DAP Parliamentary Pedalaman Liaison Chief, Dr. Benjamin Yapp made another inspection on 13th October 2010. He saw that the structural defects and he believes that the bridge may not be able to withstand the heavy vehicles that are passing through it for long.

Dr. Benjamin Yapp appeals to the authority to take a serious note on this matter as it involves public safety. This is also a very strategic bridge which links Tenom to Kemabong. The BN government has announced to build a new bridge at Padas River, but it seem that it will not be implement.
