GUILTY....Glenn Roderick Holland was found guilty of being party to sexual conduct with a child.
A MAN in New Zealand has been jailed for three years after flying to Russia to take sexual photos of a seven-year-old girl.
The case is the first of its kind for New Zealand as overseas victims are never usually found, but in this case the girl and her mother flew here to give evidence in court.
Glenn Roderick Holland, 67, was sentenced in Auckland District Court on Wednesday after earlier being found guilty of being party to sexual conduct with a child, Fairfax reported.
He pleaded guilty to possession of objectionable images, which attracted a further 12 months' jail - which will be served concurrently with the three-year term.
In 2007, in Moscow the seven-year-old victim and another man were photographed under the direction of Holland.
In September 2008 the victim and her mother came to New Zealand to visit Holland and brought with them his USB drive which contained 5000 objectionable images.
The images were of girls under the age of 12 in various states of undress. They often showed both the victim and Holland naked.
Judge Chris Field said it was not safe to allow Holland back into the community.
Holland has previously been fined and served home detention for possessing objectionable material in New Zealand.
In 1988, he was sentenced to two years' jail in Australia for sexually assaulting a young girl on a photographic modelling assignment.
Judge Field said he needed to send a deterrent message "to quash the demand that fuels the international appetite for these images". (smh)
