M'SIAN MAN DIES AFTER SETTING FIRE

A FORMER restaurant owner died from burns after he is believed to have set fire to his own house in Kampung Melayu Kangkar Pulai, Johor Bahru on Tuesday.

Nusajaya District Police Chief, Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said the fire at 9.30am caused injury to his wife and two daughters.

Syed Hussin bin Syed Hussin, 63, died on the way to hospital while his wife, Wan Rokiah Wan Yussuf, 43, and daughters Sharifah Aishah, 22, and Sharifah Zulaikha, 21, suffered body burns.

Wan Rokiah and Sharifah Aishah were being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital while Sharifah Zulaikha was given outpatient treatment.

Noor Hashim said the case was classified as sudden death and an autopsy on the body was performed at the same hospital.

It is learned that a misunderstanding occurred between Syed Hussin and his Thai wife before the fire broke out.

Their other daughter, Sharifah Athirah Alya, 16, said she was sleeping in a room when she was awaken by shouts of fire.

"When I woke up from sleep at about 10am, I saw my mother crawling out of the house from the kitchen door with her body still in flames," she added. (Bernama)
