A WOMAN requested monthly alimony of S$500 (RM1,200) from her former husband, but a judge has awarded her just S$1 (RM2.40).
The judge took into consideration the fact that the man was willing to contribute S$1,000 (RM2,400) monthly for their two daughters' living expenses, and thus awarded her only S$1.
According to Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News, which did not name the couple, the judge pointed out that the woman could change her expenditure patterns to reduce her living expenses.
The judge added that if her request for S$500 was to help increase her personal savings, then such a request would be 'unreasonable'. (The Straits Times)
