UNSOLVED PUZZLED IN KG. BANGKA-BANGKA

ANDREW LEE of Sabah DAP Kapayan Barat and Sabah DAP State Vice Chairmen Edward Ewol Mujie received an invitation to Kg. Bangka-Bangka by a disappointed villager to come and witness the situation here. They were made to understand that a new wooden bridge was built to replace the old and shaky bridge.

This bridge is very important to the villagers as this is the only way to the Muslim Cemetery nearby. The villagers said that if there is a funeral, the villagers would use this particular bridge to cross over to the other side leading to the Muslim Cemetery for the ceremony.

At the beginning, the villagers were very happy indeed to see the development of the new bridge. However the villagers got to know that the new bridge was only half build. Villagers were puzzled by the decision made by the relevant authorities to cut short the length by fifty metres.

The length of the bridge is shorter than the current wooden bridge and this force the villagers to walk on muddy land when the villagers need to cross over to the Muslim cemetery. To make matters worse and difficult is when the villagers need to carry the departed across to the burial ground on slippery and muddy ground.  At the same time the risk of coming face to face with a snake is possible due to the long uncut grass.

Sabah DAP urge the relevant authorities to provide an explanation to the public and to carry out investigation on this half build wooden bridge at Kg. Bangka-Bangka.  Why is this happening? Has the appointed contractor been paid or half paid for this job?

The villagers mentioned that the elected representative for Sepanggar, YB Jainab visited Kg. Bangka-Bangka for several times but there is no action taken but just talk and seeking for votes. Kg. Bangka-Bangka till today has no proper rubbish collection and roads are also half tarred. How could this been over looked or are they just being ignorant?

At the site inspection, we were brought to a nearby dumping ground.  Its smell is unbearable. The villagers have no other choice but to dispose of their daily waste just few steps away from their homes. Rubbish trucks may gain access to the village as it is well designed by the previous Berjaya Government.

The village head had applied to the DBKK for such servicers such as rubbish collection, cutting of grass, maintaining of drains etc...The elected representative was also asked to assist in this application. The villagers do understand that there will be assessment fees imposed and they are fine with it.

However, there was no reply at all from the DBKK or the elected representative of Sepanggar. Kg. Bangka-Bangka has been established for a long time now. It’s just located beside Kingfisher homes.  All they are asking is the elected representative to be more sensitive towards the villagers, to listen & take note of the needs.

Sabah DAP urges DBKK and other relevant authorities to assist in this matter for the comfort and safety of the villagers.
