1 MALAYSIA, 1 MOSQUITO!

By: DOMINIC GERARD JOSEPH

As reported, our PM told reporters after officiating at the 61st session of WHO Regional Committee, "We have to find creative and very innovative ways to eradicate dengue."

First I will begin with a slogan: 1 Malaysia, 1 Mosquito, which I dedicate to The National Biosafety Board and is in line with the 1 Malaysia concept.

Following are some of my very own creative ideas developed at one of my own laboratories :

1. Form PERKASA : The new PERKASA means,'Penyelamat Rakyat Dari Kuasa Aneh Sentuhan Aedes.'

2. Ninja Suits : Ninja suits to be distributed to all local council staff. A new look to fight the nyamuk Aedes.

3. GAS : Idris Jala may have developed a special GAS at one of his laboratories that could be used to eradicate nyamuk Aedes.

4. Agent Orange : Re-introduce agent orange which was used by the Americans during the Vietnam war to combat Aedes.

I hope the PM's 'spin doctors' are able to sense the direction I am taking. When a commercial centre, public area or a drain is not maintained by the local council for some months and in some cases it has been years and now becoming a health hazard to the rakyat, immediate action needs to be taken to overcome the problem. Remember, performance now!

To elaborate further, during a war it would be purely rhetorical to ask the rakyat for creative ideas on prevention of war. Nations must first establish peace then take steps to avert future wars and conflicts.

In the case of a dengue epidemic, which has taken hundreds of lives in Malaysia, eradication first then prevention.

The latest report by AFP, DPM Muhyiddin Yassin said, "There was a major rise in deaths due to dengue fever, with 107 deaths so far this year compared to 70 deaths for the same period last year."

Back to the battle front, as reported, 'High Number of Dengue Cases At Mentari Court.' in PJS 8. From January to September 2010, number of dengue cases 47 and 4 hemorrhagic dengue.

Question: What performance now measures will be taken to eradicate dengue at Mentari Court?
