VOTER TRANSFERRED WITHOUT HIS CONSENT

TAWAU: Sri Tanjung Assemblyman, Jimmy Wong yesterday received a complaint from a voter about the latter being transferred to another constituency without his knowledge and consent.

The complainant who is a senior citizen, migrated from Perak to Tawau 40 years ago and he had cast his vote in all the elections held over the years in the Sri Tanjung constituency.

During the last general election, he cast his vote at the Sabah Chinese High School, a polling district in the Sri Tanjung state constituency which is nearby his residence.

The Election Commission (EC) would, under normal circumstances, allocate to any voter a constituency according to the address stated on his identity card and a change can only be effected if there was an application made by the voter personally to the commission.

In this case, the complainant’s residential address is Taman Cynthia, Jalan Chong Thain Vun, Tawau and has never submitted an application for transfer to another constituency.

Responding to the complaint, the Sabah DAP chief queried the logic of the action taken by the EC to change the constituency of the affected voter without his consent and knowledge.

He expressed worry that the complainant’s case might only be the tip of the iceberg.

“What is the logic adopted by the EC to justify such a change? And this has been done without the knowledge of the person affected.

“Is there any special plan to move the voters out from their constituency?” Wong asked.

Jimmy went on to say that the grapevine in the district have had it for sometime that some 2,000 voters have been moved out of the Sri Tanjung constituency which solidify his assertion that it was a plot to unseat him in the next general election.

He urged voters to check their respective voting constituencies by accessing www.spr.gov.my or sending a SMS to15888, by typing SPR>semak>IC No.).

“Voters may request DAP’s assistance to check their status. DAP Sabah will compile all these cases and file a complaint to the EC. This is a programme to demand for clean elections and without a properly conducted election, democracy is rendered meaningless,” he said. (theborneopost)

  5. Perkara ini sememangnya tidak patut berlaku. Mungkin ada kesilapan teknikal dalam pendaftaran SPR.

  6. SPR perlu menyelesaikan mengenai masalah seperti ini. Pengundi yang meragukan juga perlulah disiasat bagi memastikan mereka benar-benar layak mengundi.
