THE CHIEF MINISTER'S 2013 NEW YEAR MESSAGE

IN HIS New Year message Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman spoke of the need to take stock of both achievements and setbacks in the past year so as to emerge stronger.

Holding up the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) as the vehicles that he said would take Sabah to the next level of development, Musa revealed his focus on oil and gas, palm oil and tourism as key sectors that would engage the state government's attention.

"Sabah is on track to achieving meaningful growth for our people," he said.

He reiterated a pledge that he has made on numerous occsions before, that is, to achieve development without sacrificing the ecosystems, biodiversity and cultures.

Putting a high premium on public feedback on the ETP and GTP,  he reminded elected representatives from the Barisan Nasional to meet with the people often, to be in touch wth grassroot sentiments and to go "the extra mile" in solving issues that your constituents are facing.

He had good words for those he considered to be the "committd people" entrusted with the task of carrying out important projects, and attributed the state's achievements to their hard work and dedication. However, he cautioned public servants to be mindful of their public image, especially in the social media.

"I do not wish to hear of public servants not delivering what they are tasked with," he said.

Stressing the need for balanaced development as between the urban and rural areas, the rich and the poor, Musa said,

"We remain steadfast in our quest to reduce poverty, to provide basic necessities such as clean water and electricity."

Touching on the 2013 budget of RM4.088 billion he said it was to meet the needs and well-being of the people, and one that would bring development in Sabah to the next level.

As Chairman of the ruling National Front Coalition Musa reminded the people not to be taken in by the opposition's wrong information and empty promises.(Insight Sabah)

My vision for Sabah is that we be the prime example of a harmonious, economically robust state in Malaysia. When the time comes to close the chapter on my role as chief minister, I want to be able to look back and see that every change effected had been to the best of my abilities and had, indeed, brought us closer to that goal.
At the moment, the journey continues, Musa said.

  29. Musa's advice to youngsters or graduates who aspire to become politicians:

1.Stay fit and stay healthy. Schedules can and will be grueling and unforgiving. Look at things from as many angles as you can. Remember, there are many shades of grey to deal with. Especially in a country like ours where our people are diverse and varied in culture, race and religion.

  30. 2.Expect the unexpected and be prepared for consequences with each decision. Be responsible for them. There will be many difficult decisions and crossroads to take.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 3.So, be as informed as you can possibly be. Talk to your constituents and talk to the political veterans. Broaden your views. Take cues and be inspired by the examples set by leaders from around the world. They, too, are navigating similar waters so why not heed the lessons they have learnt and apply them, or rather adapt them, to what is happening in one's own backyard.

  32. Musa's to ensuring the school once used to produce excellent students both in academic as well as in sports continue to be one of the best schools in Malaysia:

Musa said-To me, no one educational institution is more important than the other. We need to make sure that our education system across the board strives towards excellence and produces graduates of high quality.
Students need to be motivated and encouraged to excel in areas that they are keen on, instead of merely forcing them to excel at a set list of subjects.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I acknowledge that Sabah is facing a shortage of good teachers. But I believe we are moving in the right direction. Together with the Federal Government, we are working towards raising our education system to world-class levels by becoming the first nation in South-East Asia to adopt a teaching standard. It is called the Malaysian Teacher Standard and requires educators to reach certain benchmarks in order to qualify as a teacher, starting from pre-school to tertiary education levels.
Apart from good quality teachers, there is also the need for stable policies so that students do not suffer confusing transition periods. This is a national concern.

  34. The most defining moment of Musa political career:

There have been a few moments that I feel, were key. First, was coming into the BN government after struggling for many years in the opposition. The BN platform enabled me to better function as an agent of change for the people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Second was being able to address the woes of the state in terms of its financials. We managed to fortify state reserves into its current total of RM3bil. This places us in a much better position to effect socio-economic change. We have been able to implement key policies, like the communal title for instance, in our mission to eradicate poverty, especially at the abject levels.

    ReplyDelete
  36. And finally, being able to match political and economic aspirations without compromising environmental concerns. We have protected the treasures that make Sabah unique in Malaysia and even the world.

This was done with the knowledge that Maliau Basin had 200 million tonnes of coal that could power the nation for the next 20 years. And we are working on, and will definitely push for it to become our second World Heritage Site.-Musa
