STAR SUPPORTS DESAH'S FORMULA

THE STATE Reform Party (STAR) supported the call by the newly set-up ad-hoc committee, Democracy Sabah, (Desah) for a one-to-one fight in most of the Sabah seats at the coming general election.

Sabah STAR chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, in a statement here today said STAR also supported the formulae proposed by Desah to identify which political party and possible candidates are most suitable to stand in which seats.

"We support the idea and the general idea of 'support auditing' of parties and candidates. I think debates between possible candidates are also very healthy but we must bear in mind too that a good debater might not be as good in other aspects of leadership as politics is not confined to debate alone.

"As far as STAR is concerned we are looking at our possible candidates that are brave, knowledgeable, and people-oriented, and on top of that they must believe in empowering the autonomous state and subscribe in the Borneo Agenda," he said.

He added that true democracy is also about giving the people the right and freedom to choose in multi-party system, and not necessarily confined to two party system, or worse like in few dictator-ruled countries, only one very dominant party.

"What is more important to Sabah is to have a Federal Government that respects the state rights and autonomy in determining its own course, and allows Sabahans to elect their own chief minister and for them to manage their state's affairs," he added.
