WATER SUPPLY RESERVOIRS NOT SECURED

A VERY surprising and alarming situation was found at a water storage tank site situated in the Taman Ujana next to the Likas Hospital. The two water tanks are totally unsecured and not put under lock. This is totally unacceptable and posed danger to the many thousand of people living in the area who are served by the water from these two water tanks.

KK MP Hiew King Cheu was on his walkabout visit with Edward Ewol Mujie and other DAP members to Kingfisher Park and they were being informed about the situation here.

The residents here worried about their water supply being dirtied or contaminated like the case happened not long ago in Tawau where a dead body was found inside the water tank. The group immediately went to investigate the situation, and found out that the complaints were true.

The two water tanks, one as an elevated high level tank and the other is a ground level tank. The security fence gates were wide open and no sign of any lock on site. MP Hiew climbed to the top of the tanks and found that the hatch covers are not locked too. It is easy to gain access to the inside of the tanks. The roof of the ground level tank has a large piece of roof covering sheet coming loose and wide open.

The problem is definitely missed out by the water department and it seems they have not come to the tanks for a long time, and this is seen by the thick grass and vegetation growing here. The water department must immediately come to site to clean up, make good, clear the tanks and reinstall the security here.

This may look simple and no big deal, but what happen if  a similar case like Tawau repeats itself here. We can not afford to have case like this happen. The two tanks must be secured and the roof cover must be reinstated to avoid things from falling into the drinking water. What happens if a poison snake gets inside?

  2. The water tanks are not locked down, if someone wants to sabotage the people, they can easily contaminate the water.
