BAD FEDERAL ROADS IN SABAH

KK MP, Hiew King Cheu in parliament saying that the federal roads in Sabah is well known of their bad conditions and there were not much attention given to improve them. It is more like "drive at your own risk"!

This can be seen on the federal trunk roads leading from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat, Sandakan, Tenom, and Sipitang. The roads from Sandakan to Lahad Datu, Semporna, Tawau are the same. The worst case is the road from Keningau to Kalabakan.

These roads are potential killers and it is not safe to drive on these roads anymore. There are big pot holes, sharp bends, narrow stretches, and steep gradients. The people have no choice but have to take a big risk to drive on these roads. If there is a train service, they will use the train.

The people repeatedly requested for these roads to be fitted with lightings, but so far there is no action taken. We needs road lights at night for safe driving, but the government is not providing that, does it means they don't care about us? In Semananjung, we see road lights every 30 meters, but we see only few lights from town to town in Sabah.

Our federal roads have not enough safety measures and that is another cause of frequent a fatal accidents. The recent one that killed 5 was caused by a car crushing into a car on the opposite lane. Why there is no crush barriers in between, and when can the government make our roads safe in Sabah?

Flyover is needed to ease the traffic jam situation in many parts of the Kota Kinabalu City. This is especially in the Jalan Lintas where at least 4 junctions needed flyovers. So far we have heard the flyovers and upgrading work will start, but when?

KK MP Hiew hope the ministry can keep up with their work and make our roads safe. (DAP Media)
