KOTA KINABALU has been
raining for the past many days. The rainfall is unpredictably high most of the
time. Many clogged drains are also very common sights in Kota Kinabalu.
This is due to
inefficiencies and slackness of the authorities such as the local councils who
are supposed to be responsible to ensure the public a cleaner and a safer
environment around the city and in all the housing areas in Kota Kinabalu City
which is under the jurisdiction of DBKK and the Penampang District Council. All
the house owners in Kota Kinabalu are required to pay at least RM30 per month
as assessment fees for the works to be carried out.
A furious, dissatisfied and
angry resident from Taman Century (Lorong Semangkuk 6) seek assistance from
Andrew lee, Special assistant to Kota Kinabalu MP regarding the clogged drains which are not cleared up and
caused rain water to overflow into houses and the car porch.
The complainant felt
helpless and unhappy, and he mentioned that something should be done by the
relevant authorities. They should take the initiative to 'Turun Padang' to look
into the matter and not just take some pictures at the site. The complainant,
had channeled this matter to the authorities numerous times for the past ten
years, and yet there is no concrete solution.
Datuk Yee Moh Chai at the
same time was notified and asked to assist in this matter. Unfortunately, there
was no action too. The resident is very disappointed that these complaints had
landed to deaf ears.
The house owner of Taman
century seeks a long term solution. The complainant’s house and car porch is
often flooded when it rains heavily. There is also rain water rushing down from
the hill and from other housing drains channeling the rain water down to the
narrow and shallow drain at Taman Century.
To make things worse, the
main drain beside Lorong Semangkuk 6 is full of vegetation and rubbish which
has never been cleared for years. As for now, to avoid these problems from
repeating in the very near future, the authority must engage qualified
contractors to carry out the work and to ensure all developers comply with its
terms, conditions and specifications required.
As for most of the housing
projects in Kota Kinabalu for that matter, many developers did not comply to
specifications and should have not been granted an approval. Are the house
buyers being cheated off their rights? This is a serious matter and house
owners should not be taken for a ride. There is no one to carry out inspections
in and around the Kota Kinabalu housing areas to detect problems faced by the
public.
Sabah DAP urges the
authorities to look into this matter seriously and to provide a solution for
these house owners in and around Kota Kinabalu. No one likes their house to be
flooded in deep smelly water.
