“THE UNPRECEDENTED and
shocking, to say the least, revelations at the on-going Royal Commission of
Inquiry (RCI) on phantom voters and illegitimate voters enabling fraudulent
wins for Umno/BN candidates is the clarion call for all Sabah leaders across
the political divide to join hands to oust the illegitimate government and to
call for the suspension of the forthcoming general elections in Sabah until the
electoral rolls are cleaned up” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, Chairman of
STAR SABAH in a press statement released today.
It distresses genuine
Sabahans and Malaysians no end that the revelations at the RCI are confirming
that even the worst of our nightmares on the poor governance of Sabah are
nothing compared to what we are hearing.
We hear of illegal
immigrants being given registration receipts and used as voters for hire to
ensure wins for Umno/BN candidates including a former chief minister, and who
would have lost if not for these voters for hire, at RM20 per head and dubious
issuance of identity cards to unqualified foreigners and them being registered
as voters and naturally supporting the BN.
On Friday’s hearing, we hear
of foreigners who were born in India and had travelled to Sabah using Indian
passports but end up as Malaysian citizens said to be born in Sabah and given
Malaysian ICs and passports and having voted 4 to 5 times in the past. What was more shocking was that they merely
signed forms and even their place of birth was put in by others and the ICs
were hand delivered?
The unprecedented
revelations are certainly a first in world history and the international
community, the world legal fraternity and the United Nations Security Council
and its members should seriously study to stand by the long suffering people of
Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia.
Back home, we urge all local
Sabah leaders, NGOs and the people to come together and join hands with STAR
Sabah in this grave and darkest moment in Malaysia and Sabah’s history to take
a common stand on what the RCI has revealed.
It is clear that the present
Sabah government is illegitimate and can only be a caretaker government, at
best, and should be ousted by the people of Sabah.
The Election Commission,
which is supposed to be impartial as set out and required in the Federal
Constitution, should stop its nonsense and ensure that fair and free elections
are carried out in the 13th general elections.
Given the revelations at the
RCI until now, it is obvious that the electoral rolls, at least in Sabah, are
tainted and needs to be cleaned up before the general elections can be held in
Sabah.
We cannot allow illegitimate
voters and foreigners to vote and determine the future of Sabah. The forthcoming general elections in Sabah
should not be held until the RCI has completed its task and the electoral rolls
are totally cleaned up and free from dubious, illegitimate and foreigner
voters.
STAR Sabah will be holding a
Press Conference on Monday, 21 January 2013, at 10.30 am. at the Sabah Oriental
Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, regarding the revelations at the RCI, the role of the SPR
in the light of these revelations and the coming general elections.
We take this opportunity to
invite all Sabah leaders across the political divide, NGOs and the people to
attend the Press Conference so that we, the people and leaders of Sabah, can
make a common stand.
We need to “Selamatkan Sabah
Tanah Airku” for the future good of Sabah and Sabahans.
