NOT READY….. the new sewerage pumps house under construction.
By : DAP MEDIA
THE residents of Taman Ria had called upon the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu to help regarding the serious problem arising from the sewerage treatment plant serving the Taman Ria.
Hiew had inspected the sewerage treatment plant and saw some work is going on and he immediately called the DBKK sewerage section and its maintenance contractor to attend to the matter.
He later found out that the work is actually under JKR sewerage section, and they had taken over the sewerage plant and pump house from DBKK and will divert all the foul sewerage water into the JKR new sewerage main pipe system through a new pump station.
The sewerage plant will then be made absolute and abandoned once the connection to the new main sewerage system is done.
At the moment the small pumps in the existing plant are not functioning too well due to the rubbish and plastic bags from the houses are clotting up the pumps and causing jamming of the pumps.
This resulted in the failure of the pumps unable to pump the foul water away, and thereby seriously overflowed whenever there if a high discharge from the houses. The toilet bowls in many houses also overflowed causing much inconvenience, and the toilets sometimes cannot be used.
CONTACT……Hiew contact the JKR engineer to come to put right the failed pumps.
JKR engineers explained to MP Hiew that they are waiting for the work on the connection to be completed, so that can connect to the new main sewer without using any pumps anymore. At the moment they have to depend on the old pump system to discharge the foul water. They hope this can be over in a short period.
Hiew urges the JKR and its maintenance contractor to pay special attention to avoid no further stoppage of the sewerage pumps. This had created much headache for the residents here.
At the same time Hiew also remind the resident here not to throw any plastic bags, French-cap, sanitary towels and rubbish into the toilet bowls, because this is the main cause of the pumps being jam up. He had seen plenty of such items floating in the pump pit.
