KUALA
LUMPUR : Opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today filed a RM100 million
legal action against website operator 'Papa Gomo' for allegedly posting
defamatory words and linking him with another man in a sex video.
The
plaintiff filed the suit against Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, 30, who also
owned the website, at the High Court Civil Registry through Messrs Daim &
Gamany; his lawyer N.Surendran told reporters that the writ of summons would be
served on the defendant soon.
In
his statement of claim, Anwar alleged that Wan Muhammad Azri had posted four
series of defamatory words at www.papagomo.com on March 16, 17, 19 and 20.
He
further claimed that the defendant had also set a weblink in which were
displayed a series of images which allegedly insinuated and/or implied were of
him.
Anwar
contended that the defamatory words were false and baseless, and maliciously
posted to injure his reputation and political position.
He
is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, interests, costs, and
other relief deemed fit by the court, as well as an injunction to restrain the
defendant from further posting the defamatory words and images.
