FORMER Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Deputy President, Datuk Philip Yong Chiew Lip said the public has been waiting for a week to see what the government, the ministers or the SAS Board of management have to say about Ambrose Lee's claims.
"As of today, the people are faced with a deafening silence from the government, the ministers and SAS," said Philip.
State Minister of Resources and Information Technology Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai had implicated businessman Datuk Ambrose Lee in the SAS debacle at the legislative assembly on 3 August, a Tuesday.
The following day's newspapers splashed this news on its main pages. The Sunday editions of most local newspapers equally splashed the denial by Ambrose Lee that he was responsible for the SAS unit price fiasco. He produced documents to show that his company's share swap with Warisan Harta Sdn. Bhd. had nothing to do with SAS.
"He (Ambrose) also claimed that SAS's holding of NBT shares had already been sold before the collapse of the market and NBT share values. This means that the losses suffered by SAS were not due to the NBT shares. Ambrose Lee had claimed that SAS in fact made profits from its (SAS) Sugar Bun shares. Are these claims true?" Philip asked.
"Datuk Dr. Yee was the one and only person to have implicated Ambrose Lee in the SAS debacle. Why is Datuk Dr. Yee keeping mum now? Is Datuk Dr. Yee hiding behind the absolute privilege of the Legislative Assembly in implicating Ambrose Lee but could not utter a word outside the assembly?
Ambrose Lee startled the media and the public with exposures that a senior lawyer by the name of Richard Barnes was involved in a proposal to resolve the NBT-Warisan case. Details of meetings with the Chief Minister and Richard Barnes going back to 2007 were disclosed.
"This is a very serious exposure but none of the parties involved have issued any denial or clarification. What is happening? The people are anxious for some answers to these serious allegations," said Philip.
