AES NOT APPLICABLE IN SABAH

THE HIGHLY objected and disputed AES (automatic enforcement system) has raised numerous public dismay, and yet the government insisted in claiming that this automatic system will effectively in reducing the traffic accidents.

KKMP Hiew King Cheu has in view that the AES will only bring along more trouble and dismay when it is being installed all over Malaysia. With those 14 AES installed, we already saw problems arising, and cries from the motorist. Many protests have been heard and there must be something wrong about this.

The Sabah deputy chief minister cum Minister of Infrastructure Development Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan in statement saying that the Sabah State Government supported the installation of the AES, but needed further public opinions before the implementation by JPJ. There will be at least 32 AES to be installed in Sabah.

MP Hiew said the state government should not just agree and support to allow the AES system to be installed in Sabah, especially there is no public comments, views, and opinions being obtained. This is another good example that the BN government attitude on not respecting the feelings of the people.

What Sabah needs now is good and safe roads to reduce the rampant road accidents which had caused many casualties and high fatality rate. We all know our roads are bad, unsafe, not up to the required standard and in many places it is a killer. Why can't the authorities, the ministry and the minister see this and allow the accident to continue to happen? Don't blame the drivers always, but should look into the reason on what caused the accidents.

The frequent road accidents occurred in Jalan Lintas Kota Kinabalu where cars flew over to the opposite lane knocking off a few cars are common sights. Has the ministry ever considered installing a central crush barricade to prevent the cars from crossing over? In Semananjung, this has been installed on many parts of their roads, why Sabah roads are not provided?

The point is that the government can't even give us a smooth level road to drive on, what is the use in spending huge sum of money to install the AES. A West Malaysian engineer once told Hiew that he can't understand that why the Sabah roads are having so many 'Handy-plast', and he can't find a road that is level, smooth and built to the correct specifications. This shows how unsafe and bad the Sabah roads are now.

The people's life are more precious and we can't put them to risk. The government always talk about 'drive safely', remember your love ones are waiting for you to come home, there the authorities must do the first thing by making our roads safe for the people.

The AES will not be able to bring the people home safe enough.
