CUEPACS DEMANDS FAIR RELATIVITY

By : M. IZHAM HASHIM

Cuepacs President, Datuk Omar Osman (picture) called for an immediate revision of all incentives and allowances for Sabah and Sarawak.

" We believe a review is needed to correct unfairness and irregularities to help civil servants cope with rising house prices and cost of living," he told reporters during a press conference at the KPKK Complex on Wednesday.

Datuk Omar said, discrimination between different states cannot be allowed to continue and urged a review of all types of allowances and incentives, including housing allowance and regional incentive payments.

The review should be carried out together with the Special Review Commission on Civil Service Transformation.

He was responding to the  demand for the standardisation of housing allowance for civil servants from Sabah and Sarawak working in the Peninsular.

Omar  said  he referred the matter to the Public Service Department for its consideration and action.

Highlighting the disparity, Omar pointed out that civil servants in the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak all receive the RM800 per month , despite contrasting differences in cost of living and house rental charges.

He said Cuepacs is especially concerned with new civil servants who earn much less and have to pay high rental charges that consumes a large portion of their income. (Insight Sabah)
