DISCIPLINARY action will be
taken against Health Ministry Director-General Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman
who was fined for committing khalwat (close proximity).
The 56-year-old widower has
been relieved of all duties, which will be carried out by his deputy for now.
Datuk Kamarul Zaman Md Isa,
the Ministry's Secretary-General, said they have prepared an acknowledgement to
be sent to the Public Services Commission. "This is line with the
provisions outlined under the General Rules (Discipline and Conduct)
Regulations 1993 for any civil servants who have been convicted of any crime by
the court."
In a press statement issued
on Friday, Kamarul added that the ministry had also received the official
decision reached by the Syariah High Court of Putrajaya regarding the case.
On Wednesday, Dr Hasan and
Wan Syarifah Nooraazmanita Wan Hassan, 36, were charged with committing khalwat
at a hotel in Putrajaya earlier the day. Both pleaded guilty before Syarie
judge Mohd Amran Mat Zain and were fined RM3,000 and RM2,900 respectively.
According to the statement
of facts, an enforcement team from the Religious Department raided the hotel
room at 2:18am following a tip-off. Dr Hasan was clad in a short-sleeved shirt
and long pants while his companion in a black T-shirt and long pants.
In mitigation, the pair said
they were first-time offenders, and asked for a fine and promised to wed after
the case. Wan Syarifah Nooraazmanita, an officer with the ministry's nursing
unit, was in the process of getting a divorce at the time the crime was
committed.
