JAKARTA : The Indonesia
government will carry out a comprehensive evaluation on the entry of its
workers into Malaysia in an effort to step up protection measures for them
while anticipating problems facing those who work illegally in Malaysia.
Indonesian Manpower and
Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said this would be done quickly
following recent cases against Indonesian workers in Malaysia.
Besides studying the safety
and welfare of Indonesian workers flooding Malaysia, the Indonesian government
has also appointed several local lawyers to defend Indonesian workers involved
in various cases in Malaysia, he was quoted as saying by the local media.
Muhaimin said the Indonesian
government had also asked the Malaysian government’s commitment in ensuring the
safety of Indonesian workers in the country.
“We will hold the
Indonesian-Malaysian task force (involving the governments of both countries)
meeting as soon as possible to iron out problems on placement and protection of
Indonesian workers,” he added. (Bernama)
