SABAH DAP Vice Chairman
Edward Ewol Mujie said that the local authorities must emulate the action taken
by their counterpart in the West Malaysia on the illegal advertisements as this
can be done under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
Edward said that in the West
Malaysia the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has
supported the enforcement action undertaken by the Act 149 local authorities to
tackle illegal ads in their respective jurisdiction.
So Edward said there is no
reason for the local authorities in Sabah not to emulate this step to take
necessary action on all the illegal advertisements that has been put up by the
“Ah Long”, and many other illegal trades.
However Edward said that
there is certain procedures to be complied with, and this can be done by having
close cooperation with MCMC and the Minister of Housing and Local
Government.
The services offered in the
illegal advertisements are sex services, Astro installation and money lending
among others were posted on the road signage, switch boxes, traffic lights,
lamp poles, and on the walls of public properties which made the place looked
unsightly and dirty, Edward said.
So Edward said that if the
local authorities and DBKL in the West Malaysia had succeeded in taking action
against these illegal advertisements and cancelled 472 telephone numbers used
by them with close working cooperation with MCMC, he does not want to hear any
more excuses from the local authorities especially the DBKK in Sabah by saying
that there is no provision and laws to enforce this. (DAP Media)
