CONGESTION
......Putatan Tamu's proposed relocation to ease traffic congestion.
DEPUTY Chief Minister Datuk
Seri Yahya Hussin said that the Tamu ground for Putatan would be relocated to a
better place to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in the area.
According to Yahya, the famed
Putatan Tamu market has grown rapidly in recent years but is becoming
increasingly over crowded, resulting in severe traffic congestion especially in
the town area.
"The thriving Tamu
Putatan is well-known in the West Coast, and is a popular destination for
traders and small businesses not only from Putatan and Penampang but also many
from as far as Beaufort and Semporna who come here every week end to sell their
wares.
"We are planning to
move the market to a more suitable location where it will be less congested and
more comfortable for both the traders and visitors to the weekly tamu fare.
Yahya, who is also Barisan
Nasional(BN) candidate for Petagas said the proposed relocation plan is still
at the planning stage and requires further discussion with the Putatan District
Council authorities and all relevant parties.
"Undoubtedly, some
people would defend the current location, mainly due to the Tamu's reputation
as a unique attraction for Putatan town,"he said.
However, many traders
operating in Putatan's thriving market lauded the relocation plan which would
ease traffic congestion and improve their business.
27 year-old trader Fitriani
Boy said he was in favour of moving the market to a more suitable location for
the convenience of customers and businesses. (Insight Sabah)
