KK CAR PARK SHOULD REDUCE RATES

THE KOTA KINABALU car park is finally and placed directly under the control of the DBKK now, but the question remains that during the past 10 years of contract with the private company for undertaking the collection of parking fees in Kota kinabalu, how much money has been collected and how much money has been paid into the coffer of DBKK?

The car park users query that why there is a total silent over the issue and this should be enclosed to the general public. The money paid for the car park usage is actually the people’s contribution and therefore an account on the receipt must be published.

The public has requested the KK MP Hiew King Cheu to seek clarification from the DBKK and to have the figures publish. Hiew on one hand do agree with the people and he hope the DBKK can publish the whole detail of the car parking fees for the whole ten years since the DBKK had signed the contract to the company M/S Wasasan Ithisas s/b who had concluded its contract recently on the 2nd of May 2012.

On the high rates charged previously by the company and DBKK, the people also asked DBKK to reduce the rates by at least 40%. This is inline with the measure to cut the high cost of living and expenditures. A clerk can not afford to spend up to RM80 on parking fees monthly. The average income group has voiced out many times before and there is very little respond, and now it is time that DBKK and the government should listen to the people.

The car parks in many areas in KK should remain as free to the use of the people. There should not be imposed with parking fees in places like Telipok, Mengattal, Inanam and Kolombong area. The small area in town where there is no traffic jam and having little business activities should also be exempted to pay parking fees.

DBKK has used the reasoning to impose expensive parking fees by saying that they want to control the traffic jam and long hours parking, Hiew said that there are many other ways that they can adopt to solve the problems. This can be done by building more multi-storey car parks in congested areas. In Kuching and many other cities they have solved these problems. In Kuching there are as many as three independent multi-storey car parks for the car to park in.

It is high time that DBKK should consider the peoples’ request to bring to the City additional car parking facilities like the independent Multi-storey car parks. This is for the future planning in the city, or else we will be jammed with no parking in the very near future. The cars coming on the road is about 10 thousand or more yearly. (DAP Media)

    1. I think DBKK can still make a good profit if the rates are lowered to a more reasonable amount. Its up to the DBKK car park management to come up with the best rates.

  3. KOTA KINABALU car park is finally and placed directly under the control of the DBKK now. I think its best that DBKK take over the management of the car park and reduce the rates of parking tickets so that it won't burden the people.

  5. Increasing the parking rate wouldn't solve the traffic jam and long hours parking issue. Better to build a independent multi-storey car parks .

  13. semua yuran parking di KK ini juga patut diturunkan kepada rm1.. dengan jumlah kenderaan yang ada di KK, yuran rm1 ini cukup untuk membawa pulangan yang besar kepada pihak DBKK..
