By : DAP MEDIA

THE big plot of land behind the Damai Queen Elizabeth Hopital 2 which is belonging to the Sabah State government public listed company (GLC), Warisan Harta Bhd. This land is allegedly ear-marked and proposed for a big commercial/residential development project under certain Joint venture arrangement.

The Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu was informed but people who objected on the use of this land for commercial use. The land is zoned as Residential and Commercial use R(C) by the town planning department. The source also said that the land is set for immediate commencement on the development project once the development plans are approved by the authorities and DBKK.

Hiew said his first reaction after learning about the news on the proposal project was why should there be such a big building project in the area. He said the piece of land behind the existing QE2 general hospital should be given first priority to allow the hospital to make use for its future extension like multi-storey car parks, nurses home and hospital wards. This land is most ideal for the hospital because it is big in area and it is just next to the government hospital QE2.

LOCALITY……The location plan of the said land.

Hiew in his opinion said that the land should not be allowed to build a big commercial and residential development in especially in Damai, Luyang. This is due to the road traffic congestion and there is no room for the expansion of the surrounding road system.

The existing general hospital QE2 is already having overloaded volume of cars. If this development is going to go ahead, there will be a total jam on the traffic flow in the area. On the other hand, the big commercial complex under construction in front of the QE2 next to the main road will definitely caused heavy traffic jam.

Hiew said the best solution is for the Federal Health Ministry to acquire this piece of land from the state government, and to reserve it solely for the use of the QE2. This will effectively solve the many problems arising from having two huge complexes squeezing the QE2 from the front and the back. The traffic flow and congestion problem can be easily reduced.

The latest information says that DBKK has received the application on the proposed building project, and however DBKK has not given any approval on the proposal yet. Hiew urges DBKK to view this application with serious consideration not to create further inconvenience to the people in the area and the surround housing estates. JKR road section must give their comment on the road and traffic impact assessment arising from the project.
