The Kinabatangan MP is perplexed as to why local youths are seemingly intent on
rubbishing Malaysia's image, when they can be like the South Korean superstar
PSY.

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno MP has
called for Malaysia’s youths to better Malaysia’s image by emulating the South
Korean superstar PSY and his iconic act, Gangnam Style.
Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar
Radin told the Dewan Rakyat that he was disappointed with the mockery aimed at
Malaysia’s leaders on Aug 31 this year, including the one where a youth showed
his buttocks at a photo of the Prime Minister and his wife.
“…If they don’t like the
country’s leaders, never mind. But don’t become a rude [kind of] society which
isn’t embarrassed, which can be influenced by drugs and alcohol, who takes out
their pants and shows their buttocks.
“They should be like PSY and
Gangnam Style. He, his styles and his group is very popular. Millions of people
are watching his video clip, not like our youths…destroying our image of our
country and our people,” he told Parliament.
At the time, the Dewan
Rakyat was in debate at the committee level over the 2013 Budget, and was
focused on the Ministry of Tourism.
On Merdeka Day this year,
several youths were nabbed by the police for seemingly mocking Prime Minister
Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
During the celebrations, one
showed his buttocks to a picture of the premier and his wife. Another, a
part-time model, stepped on his face. They were soon arrested by the police for
allegedly violating the Sedition Act.
During the debate, Bung said
that the tourism industry could lead to a “revealing of culture”, adding that
“outside cultures” could be copied by locals, which led him to criticise these
individuals.
