TAWAU: The Sabah Tidung
Welfare and Cultural Community Association (Pertisa) on Thursday hoped the
latest news regarding its application for bumiputera status would resolve the
community's problems.
Its Deputy President, Dr
Jefry Japar, said the Tidungs' bumiputera status, in principle, has already
been accepted by the Federal Government.
With the Bumiputera status,
the issue of students of Tidung ethnicity entering Universiti Teknologi Mara
(UiTM) would be resolved automatically.
"Pertisa hopes that
after this, there would be no more discrimination towards the Tidung ethnic
group because its culture and religion is under the Malay group," he said.
The Tidungs, he said, are
not Indonesians like what the National Registration Department (NRD) has
labeled them.
Because of this, many Tidung
students were unable to enter or continue their studies at UiTM, he said.
"Three years ago, many
Tidung students studying in UiTM were discharged from school É this is a great
loss," he said.
Jefry said the Tidungs have
been accepted as one of the bumiputeras in Sabah but that this is not so at
Federal level because of incorrect information.
Recently, Assistant Finance
Minister, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said the Tidung community in the State
should not feel restless about their status because not only are they
bumiputera, they are natives of Sabah.
ReplyDeletejika ia mmg kaum asal, layaklah mendapat status bumiputera.
