HANGING.....
Edward and Robert showing the hanging wires and tall trees.
THE PEOPLE in KK are very
concern about their beloved Gaya Street and the way how the DBKK is going to
manage the beautification and upgrading work along the street. The KK folks had
approached the KK MP Hiew King Cheu for his help to highlight their views to
the DBKK and they wish their views can be taken up and adopted by them.
The DBKK had mentioned that
there are some trees which needed to be cut off due to the infection by
diseases and some had even dried up. These trees post danger to the people on
the street especially on Sunday when there are a lot of people walking around.
The DBKK is at the moment carrying out upgrading work on the centre island
after the complaint made by the KK MP office not long ago.
MP Hiew conducted a survey
in the Gaya Street to check on the trees with Edward Ewol Mujie and Robert
Rajah, and they found that the trees there are needed attention by DBKK. The
infected and dead trees are in need of removal before any mishap can happen.
There was a case where a boy was killed by a dead tree trunk before, and
therefore special care must be given to avoid accident from reoccurring again.
Further more the people
approached Hiew and requested the tall trees to be trimmed and cut lower,
because some of the branches are touching the buildings. The hundreds of birds
which are resting here at night have created a great nuisance at night due to
their noisy and disturbing sound.
The bird droppings also
bring inconvenience and trouble to the people here. The cars and street
pavements usually spread with thick layers of the bird droppings/shits. Thus,
if the tall trees are trimmed or replace with different type of trees these
birds will not come here to rest any more, and the people could have peace.
Edward also pointed out that
the Gaya Street is having a bad sight, because we see many broken street
lights, hanging wires, and switch box nailed on to trees. The trees here are
untidy and could not give the Gaya Street a pleasant look at all. These
electrical appliances are dangerous and could cause accident anytime. It is
time that the DBKK comes to rearrange all these and give Gaya Street a new
look.
The Gaya Street is very lack
of car parking space. The people told MP Hiew to pay special attention and get
the DBKK to create more car parking spaces along the street especially in front
of the few banks here. They said if possible the banks should have two parking
lots for their customers temporary park their cars. Hiew also reminds the DBKK
should continue to redo all the pedestrian walkway in front of the shops here.
The pedestrian walkway (kaki-lima) is in very bad condition and these are
serving many budget hotels where many tourists frequently stay.
MP Hiew commented that it is
in the hand of the DBKK to work out a plan to give Gaya Street a new look and
to upgrade the facilities here. This historical street which is loved by all
must be reinstated to its glorious condition like before. The people here would
surely like to see that the crowd comes back to Gaya Street once again.
(Note:
As today, the DBKK has removed the dead and infected trees. Some hanging wires
were removed too.)
