KOTA KINABALU : Two
Filipinos were jailed a year each by the Magistrate's Court here Tuesday for
having MyKads.
Magistrate Norhamizah
Shaiffuddin meted out the sentence to Azuan Nasir and Azman Ahmad after they
pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them.
Azuan and Azman were found
to have the documents at 11am on Jan 17 this year at the Kota Kinabalu
International Airport's (KKIA) Terminal 2 departure hall, here.
They committed the offence
under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulation which carries a
jail term of up to three years or fine up to RM20,000, on conviction.
In their mitigation, both of
them applied to be sent back to their hometown in the Philippines as they have
families to look after.
However, Inspector Syahrin
Ali urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence saying that the case is
rampant in the State and involved the country's security.
Norhamizah ordered the
Filipinos to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest and to be
referred to the Immigration Department after serving their jail sentence for
further action.
Meanwhile, a local man
claimed trial to stealing a wallet containing acredit card, foreign currency,
MyKads, a MyKid, a driving licence and RM5,000 belonging to a another man.
The crime allegedly took
place at 10am on Jan 3 this year at KKIA's Terminal 2, here.
The court set Feb 20-21 for
trial and offered him bail at RM2,000 in two local sureties.
In another case, Norhamizah
ordered another local man, Mohd Shamree Diasin to pay a fine of RM2,500 or six
months behind bars for having syabu at 11am on Apr 26, 2012 by the roadside in
Putatan. (DE)
