TUARAN ROAD NEEDED TIDY UP

THE public is complaining about the long over grown grass on the center island of the Tuaran Road at Mile 6 to 8 between Inanam and Menggatal. The long grass is almost as high as few feet and it looks very untidy and ugly.

The people said that the Tuaran Road is a main road and it is frequently used by the tourist buses too, and therefore this should look tidy and nice. With the grass overgrowing on the sides, on the central island and spread on to the road surface, this is not acceptable. The road shoulders look untidy and dirty, as if this has not been maintained for a long time. The tall grass has shown that the road maintenance contractor did not come to do their work for a long time.

The Sabah DAP Vice Chairman, Edward Ewol Mujie said this is typical in Sabah that our roads are poorly maintained, and especially now in the rainy season has further caused more pot holes to appear and grass growing faster. He said the action by the authorities keep on resurfacing good road surfaces but seldom repair broken up road surface, this is highly illogical and why this has happened. The road in front of the Dewan Foo Chow in KK is a good example. It has been resurfaced in last year and in this year.

At Mile 7, Tuaran road near Yisu Industrial Estate, the main road culvert and drains are filled with garbage which blocked the water flow. When ever it rains, the water in the drains quickly swelled up and flooded the road. The entrance to the industrial estate has big pot holes needed to be patched up. All this may be small matter to the authorities but it is headache to the road users and the people in the area.

Many drains along the Tuaran road are needed to be dug up and clear out all the grass inside it. The white road lines are necessary to be repainted to mark clearly the lane and especially at the U-turns. The road signs are compulsory item to be replaced and added, especially those reflective signs. The streets lights are gone and some immediate actions are required to replace them to avoid inconvenience to the road users at night.

It is a short stretch of road but every thing here is not right, and this makes the people wander what happen to the effectiveness, efficiency and responsibility of the authorities and the government. This is 21st century but why our roads are still back in the 80’s. The people will change those non-performing people who hold power and authorities soon. (DAP Media)
