BR1M - A SECOND HELPING FOR 4.2 MILLION





AID.... One of 4.2 million Malaysians who received the first BR1M cash aid.

ACCORDING to Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, payment of the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 cash aid will be distributed in February 2013.

So far, the government has received 2.6 million new applications, the majority of which (1.8 million) are from those who are single.

“There are about 2.7 million single individuals who are eligible,” he said.

Under BR1M 2.0, the one-off cash aid has been extended to include single individuals aged 21 and above and earning not more than RM2,000 per month. Each eligible single individual is entitled to RM250.

Malaysians with a household income of less than RM3,000 a month are eligible for the one - off RM500 cash aid.

Ahmad Husni disclosed that BR1M 2.0, which involved an allocation of RM3bil, was expected to benefit 4.3 million households and 2.7 million single individuals.

Last year under the first BR1M payment the government spent RM2.1 billion to give money to 4.2 million people.

Husni did not give any closing date for the  BR1M 2.0 registration. (Insight Sabah)
