The 'Parking Amnesty' or 'Penalty
Free' period that has been in effect for the past nine months will end from
February 1, Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir announced yesterday.
Since City Hall took over
the car park management on May 1, 2012, there has not been any excess or
penalty fee imposed on motorists who failed to settle their parking fees within
21 days.
Abidin indicated that City
Hall had in November last year issued a 30 percent reduction for all types of
parking rates within City Hall's district.
In a statement, Abidin said
there will be a re-launch of the penalty fee imposed on motorists upon the
expiry of the 21 days from the date of ticket issuance.
Abidin also noted that the
parking fee collected could be utilized to upgrade parking facilities in the
city, such as adding more streetlights, installing CCTVs and other safety
features, for the benefit of the public.
Motorists can check their
parking arrears and make payment at the various
parking counters located at City Hall Counter in Jalan Bandaran, DBKK
Holdings Car Parks Management Division at KK Plaza Shopping Complex, and at the
parking collection booths at Gaya Street area, Sadong Jaya, Lintas Plaza,
Inanam New Township and Foh Sang area.
Counter operating hours in
these locations from Monday to Friday are from 8am to 4.30pm and from 8am to
1pm on Saturday.
