PENAMPANG
: A local businessman, Phillip Among, is said to in pole position to be picked
by State Reform Party (STAR) to stand in Kepayan
state
constituency for the coming poll.
Among,
44, who is also one of the vice chairmen fo the Sabah chapter of STAR has been
going around in the mix seat, held by MCA's Edward Khoo in the dissolved
assembly.
Khoo
has been announced yesterday to defend Kepayan again for BN.
Among,
meanwhile, is known for his philantropic style in helping his colleagues and
the needy. He has also contributed generously to STAR the past one year, as
well as much earlier to the United Borneo Front (UBF).
STAR
Sabah Chairman Dr Jeffrey Kitingan is expected to announce the party's candidates line up for the May 5 poll at a
function in Ming Garden tomorrow where its manifesto will also be launched.
In
his statement today, Among said if he gets to be picked by STAR he would strive
to resolve every issues that need to be resolved in Kepayan, taking into
consideration the mix-race composition in the area.
"I
know the issues affecting the Kadazandusuns there as i am one of them and i
also could understand the plights of many of the Chinese and Sino there as my
mother is a Sino who had had peculiar problems too," he said.
Kepayan
though small in physical size it has a dense population as housings are
sprucing up in the sub-urban constituency, added Among.
In
the past elections, Kepayan is one of those with the highest number of
contestants seeking to be its representatiove.
In
fact in 2008 general election the opposition votes outnumbered Khoo's votes but
he managed to win by-default by having the opposition votes split.
Unpertubed
by the same scenario this time, Among has assembled a good team of
mix-composition that have been going campaigning for him and STAR in
Kepayan for the last 12 months.
"I
hope i am given a chance to stand and eventually deliver what the Kepayan
people aspired," he said.
