ILLEGAL CAR SHED BLOCKING ACCESS TO LAND

THE ILLEGAL car shed built on a road reserve which is blocking the access to a plot of land. The owner of the land had complained to the various authorities concerning this problem many times over. There were letters written and warning letters were issued to the illegal car shed user.

Sabah DAP Local Government and Housing Bureau was being informed of the case and had conducted a site visit to check on the situation there. Its assistant Bureau Chief Raphael Ang, and members Stephen Yaman and Robert Raja saw the car shed is really sitting on the road reserve and right over the fence of the land next to it.

The question is why the authorities are so helpless, and couldn’t take action even though they have confirmed that the car shed is illegally and wrongfully built on the road reserve, blocking other people’s way.

The authorities which were notified are DBKK, Land and Survey Department, AG department and the State Secretary office. According to sources, a notice was given to demolish the car shed, but this has become a waste paper.

The final letter from Land and Survey to the owner of the car shed was issued with a deadline and a penalty clause stating that there will be a fine and imprisonment, if he doesn’t demolish the car shed. This notice again fell into deaf ears.

Raphael Ang said the authorities are 'toothless tiger' and looked so helpless like a “pussy cat”! Such a small car shed also can not be dealt with proper action, and only can wait “until Kingdom come”!

This also demonstrated that there is no use for the government officers to come to see, while there is no action taken. The land owner urgently requires to move into his land to construct their new home, and now their plan is spoiled totally. Who should be responsible?

Raphael also said that if someone who can use the road reserve without getting into trouble, then other people can also use the road reserve to build their car shed without getting into trouble. There must be some laws to abide the people from not abusing the laws and regulations.

The authorities must make sure that their order letter to demolish the illegal car shed is executed strictly with further delay. The final date to demolish the car shed is stated on April 2012.  (DAP Media)
