CONVICT JAILED FOR OIL PALM FRUIT THEFT




LAHAD DATU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a local man, who is still serving time for another offence, to seven months?imprisonment for stealing oil palm fruit bunches.

Mohd Syamsul Bin Seni, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Soffi Jalal told magistrate Korventt Wheezar E Jomiji that the accused was arrested on September 8 last year after the son of a plantation owner lodged a police report stating that his worker informed him that a man harvested oil palm fruit from the plantation, Ladang Peneroka Silabukan Peringkat II.

Police investigation revealed that the accused stole 70 oil palm fruit bunches and sold them for RM493.

The court ordered Mohd Syamsul to serve the sentence consecutively after completing an earlier sentence for another offence. (theborneopost)
