KENINGAU: The Interior Under 12 Rugby Team is ready to hold on to their title in the State’s Under 12 Rugby Tournament that has started in Ranau from May 2 to 5 this year.

The team’s coach, Ruddy Daupin said the Interior team, which is represented by three Sabah players had been the champion of the tournament for two consecutive year since 2010.

“With the preparation as well as confidence level that has been shown by the players, we are confident that we will be able to bring glory to the interior once again this year,” he said.

According to him, since Apr 18, the team, which consists of 11 form five and six students from various primary schools in the interior, has undergone intensive training and placed in one centre, which was the SK Pekan Keningau 2 school.

Meanwhile,  the team’s manager, Mohd Safari Abd Sulan said the team officials had decided to segregate the team’s training time to three parts, namely from 5.20am to 7am, from 10.30 am to 12.30pm and from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

“We even have a special cook who prepared the players with meals according to a special menu so that they will have the most proper diet which will give them the stamina and health that will help them in their games,” he said.

Before departing for Ranau, the team received a morale boost here recently with a visit by PBS Liawan Chief, Datuk Jake Nointin, who also sponsored the team’s official T-shirt as well as parts of the expenses.

During the brief encounters, Jake told the players to have high level of discipline when they are on the field as well as outside of the field as it is the key to bring success to the team in the competition.
