MEMORANDUM WITH JIANGMEN

KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun is set to sign a memorandum of collaborative agreement with the Tourism Ministry of Jiangmen to promote State tourism in China.

The deal will be signed when he performs the closing ceremony of the 3rd World Youth Congress of Jiangmen on June 3 at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort.

The State tourism industry has great potentials in attracting tourists from China and other countries to visit our renowned diving paradise, beautiful islands and the UNESCO world heritage site of Mount Kinabalu, said Masidi.

He hopes that all the delegates from the various countries would explore our beautiful tourist attractions and to experience the goodwill of our people after the congress.

He said this after accepting the invitation to be the guest of honour to do the closing ceremony when receiving a courtesy call from the congress organising chairwoman cum United Sabah Sze Yip Association (USSYA) president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen.

Also present were the association’s vice chairman Peter Ma and its organizing committee members.

This the first time the congress is held outside of China and the USSYA was given the honour to host the biennial event this year in Kota Kinabalu. The inaugural congress was held in Jiangmen in 2008 while Macau hosted the second one in 2010.

About 1,000 youths from all over the world including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, America, Canada, England, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia will converge here to attend the congress.

Besides signing the agreement to promote the State tourism sector, the other programmes will see Kota Kinabalu and Jiangmen sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a twinning city; presentation of the world’s ten Outstanding Jiangmen Youth Award, handing over of the flag to the next host and the presentation of songs and dances by delegates from Sabah, Jiangmen and Hong Kong.
