OCTOMUM
Nadya Suleman has filed for bankruptcy after racking up as much as £615,000 of
debt. The 36-year-old, who already had six children when she gave birth to
eight more in January 2009, owes money to gas, water and electricity suppliers.
She
is also behind on cash owed to a mobile phone provider, the department of motor
vehicles, a school, a pest control company and her mortgage lender, court
papers show.
Her
house in La Habra, California, was due to be auctioned off yesterday after she
made no payments for a year. But the sale has been postponed for a week.
Suleman’s
bankruptcy suit follows claims she was neglecting her brood. Photos of the home
she shares with Noah, Jonah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Nariah, McCai, Maliyah and
Josiah and her six other kids showed rooms in a mess, with graffiti on walls.
Other
images showed the children using potties in the garden and clothes strewn
everywhere.
A
team from California social services inspected her home following claims there
was just one working toilet.
La
Habra Police's Sgt Daniel Barnes said officers did not find anything unusual. Officials
then ruled the 14 children, aged three to nine, were not in danger. But they
will be monitored.
Suleman,
who has admitted being broke and struggling to cope since her multiple birth,
recently signed on for £1,500 a month in food stamps.
Now
she told a US news site: “I have had to make some very difficult decisions this
year and filing Chapter 7 (bankruptcy) was one of them.
“But
I have to do what is best for my children and I need a fresh start.”
Reports
suggest Suleman is considering making a porn movie to settle her debts.
She
posed topless for a magazine earlier this year, netting her nearly £4,000. At
the time she said she would never do blue movies.
But
now she has told a television channel: “If the opportunity comes up I’ll be the
first to admit: I’m going to eat my words.
“All
that matters is that I can take care of my family. If it’s a job, and it’s a
well-paying job, and it’s going to allow me to get out of here and move into a
very safe, huge home that they deserve, I’m going to do it.” (thesun.co.uk)
