A man has been arrested for
trying to rape a pedestrian on a street in Beijing, China. Chinese police
confirmed on Thursday that the man, a British tourist, was under their custody
but did not reveal details.
The Tuesday night incident
occurred near a subway exit in Xuanwumen, where the man grabbed a woman on the
street and attempted to rape her.
Passers-by who responded to
the woman's screams for help managed to stop the suspect from raping her. The
incident was videotaped by a netizen.
From the video, it could be
seen that a Good Samaritan walked up to the victim - who was stripped down to
her panties with the suspect on top of her.
The victim, who was crying,
kept saying "No" and "Save Me" and that she did not know
the suspect, who had already pulled down his pants.
When the suspect saw more
and more people surrounding him, he walked away but was assaulted by the crowd
till he fell.
Angry netizens have also
called for the suspect to be deported.
"Get out of China, we
don't welcome you!" wrote Mu Qingqing.
Some also claimed that the
suspect had harassed at least five female commuters in a subway train earlier
that day.
