THE well known Sabah Kadazan/Dusun songs singer/artist who is known as the ‘Atama’ (Andrew Ambrose) aged 36 filed his dismay to the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu over an unhappy event happened during the Harvest Festival Celebration in KDCA Building involving a stage performance on the 31st of May, 2011 afternoon at 2.45pm. The performance was staged in front a big crowd of thousands of spectators and fans.

Atama was informed and stopped by the organizing committee that his scheduled performance was cancelled due to the instruction from the ‘top’, and which later turned into a heated argument due to the fact that there were announcement made on stage during the time and the music had started playing.

The microphone were refused to Atama, and thereby caused much anger and confusion. Atama said he felt very disappointed with the type of last minute refusal by the organizing committee to stop him from performing and deprived him the golden chance to stage and promote the new Kadazan/Dusun songs, especially while the VIPs and the fans were waiting to hear the new songs. This is the first public appearance and audience of the new songs.

Atama who is from Tambunan, and he had studied in the Sabah College and the Stamford College in Kota Kinabalu. He started in 1993 to enter into the field of singing and entertaining in Kadazan/Dusun songs. He became well known with many fans due to his ‘Kadazan/Dusun Hip Hop’ songs since the 2006.

He is the son of the famous Initiator and inventor of the ‘Bamboo Orchestra’ in Sabah, Ambrose Mudi, a prominent local musician and the first Dusun singer to perform in the National RTM program.

Atama and Joanna Quintin are featured in the new song single launched by the famous Kadazan/Dusun singer Peter Dickly Lee namely ‘Mombit Kombit’ which is inspiring to the young people.

The theme of the single emphasized that the young people likes to do what they wish as usual but they must not forget to control themselves for not going off limit and over board. These beautiful songs in Kadazan/Dusun are well written and sang. The music is arranged by Atama.

Hiew after listened to Atama said that it was not fair for him to be denied the chance to perform in such a prestigious occasion of the Pesta Kaamatan especially with the first audience of the new Kadazan/ Dusun songs of the new single of the group.

This might become a heat song in Sabah and bring much pride to the Sabahan. The previous many Kadazan/Dusun songs have become nationally known and sang by many in Malaysia, and even being translated into many languages and sang by many singers.

Hiew urges the organizers to be more careful and considerate in any event in the future to allow the local artist and singer to be featured and to perform to promote the local songs. This is especially so when we have lots of foreign tourist like we had in the KDCA recently.

Any personal ill feelings and fight must be put as secondary and to put aside. This happening in KDCA on Atama should not be repeated in anywhere else in Sabah, especially in the official function.
