HOSPITAL MEDICINE VERY EXPENSIVE?

DAP Sabah demanded Health Ministry and Finance Ministry to explain to public why public hospitals could not purchase medicines directly from manufacturers.

Junz Wong DAP Sabah State Assistant Secretary said this middlemen system practiced by the Ministries for drugs procurements has denied Rakyat their rights to enjoy affordable medicine and treatments.

"Not only there is this middlemen system, what makes it even worse is that the medicinal products purchased under the system are not brought via an open tender which may have led to the ministry paying as high as 15% above the market prices for the drugs." Junz claimed

As a result of procuring medicines through these middlemen, was more costly medicines and less efficiency in delivery. There were also claims that this middlemen policy had prevented the industry and its potentials from growing and skewed the local market.

Junz demanded Health Ministers to come clean with this issue as public interests were at stake. People have the rights to know. Junz concluded.
