THE
KK QEH 1 wards on the 1st floor of the old block were flooded following the
heavy down pour last night. The patients had to be moved to other wards due to
the pounding of water on the floors.
There
were some twenty over patients who were in the ward during that time. The worst
part is that the lift was out of order and the patients had to be hand-carried
to get to the ground floor. It took the hospital over ten people to do the
transferring job down the staircase.
The
water is leaking through the cracked concrete roof that was reported last month
where a patient was hit and injured by the falling ceiling pieces and the
concrete fragments. The water is leaking seriously from the cracked roof now.
This
raised much concern and worries amount the hospital personals and the patients.
This seems that the building has become unsafe and what is the hospital
management is going to do about it. The lift was out of order and according to
some one here it is too expensive to repair. It may cost some fifty thousand to
repair and get it going again. Therefore, we see that there are many things
being stacked in front of the lift and a notice was posted there.
We
want our hospital buildings to be safe and sound but this is getting too far
and really worried the people. In the QEH 1, there were too many such bad
happenings, if one can remember. First the Tower Block and now the old block,
what is next?
One
patient told the KK MP Hiew King Cheu that he worries more about the building
than his own sickness, and he doesn’t know whether he is safe to sleep there?
Hiew views the situation really needs immediate care and investigation by the
hospital board and the JKR.
The
Ministry of Health must act and make necessary action to thorough check on
their hospital and clinic through out the country. It is a fact that other
states also had similar situation happened before.
There
is a common saying “Prevention is better than cure”!
MP
Hiew again reminds the Heath Department that QEH 1 is still having an acute car
parking problems. The traffic police continued to summon the cars that were
forced to park by the road sides and on the round about due to couldn’t find a
parking space. It is the duty of the Health department to immediately create
and build more parking spaces now. The open space and available land under the
hospital must be converted into parking space without further delay.
This
is because when the twin tower blocks are ready, the 606 beds will bring along
at least 1,000 cars. By then where are these cars going to park? There is still
no sight of the new multi-storey car park building, and we don’t know when this
can actually start work. It is quite sure that the multi-storey car park will
not be ready before the completion of the twin tower blocks. By then we shall
see havoc and congestion all over the QEH 1.
It
is time to act and do not sit on it any longer, said KK MP Hiew.
