MEANWHILE in same relation
story, Borneo Post report that Police have detained a local man in connection
with the death of an American man at a hotel in the city on Monday.
State Police Commissioner
Datuk Hamza Taib said the 26-year-old man was arrested in the city centre
around 2am yesterday, about 11 hours after Paire Jeffrey Scott, 46, was found
dead in a room of the hotel. He said the local man was detained as he was the
last person with the victim.
A cleaner with the hotel
found the man’s body in a pool of blood around 3pm on Monday. It was said the
victim arrived in the state capital on August 9 from the Philippines and
checked into the hotel on Saturday.
He left the hotel early in
the morning on Sunday and apparently returned around 2am the next day with
multiple injuries, including three wounds on his head and one on his arm.
“We managed to back track
the victim’s whereabouts before the incident happened, which led police to
detain the local man to assist in our investigation,” said Hamza.
“It is still too early to
determine what actually happened but investigation has led police to rule out
any incident in the hotel which led to the victim’s death.
“We are still investigating
the case from all angles,” he said, adding that the victim’s family had been
informed of the incident through the US Embassy. The case is being investigated
under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
